First Bed and Breakfast for People with
Developmental Disabilities
Martha's
Place, Oregon's first bed and breakfast for individuals
with developmental disabilities (DD), is a respite care home that
provides affordable overnight care for up to five individuals at one time.
Martha's Place is state licensed as a Foster Care Provider and has provided tens
of thousands of hours of respite care since
its opening in June 2002.
Need for
Martha's Place
Oregon's 60,000 families and
caregivers of people with DD need an accessible, reliable, safe, and affordable
service to provide temporary relief from the overwhelming responsibility of
24-hour, 7-day a week personal care. Respite care is the number one
requested support service asked by caregivers of individuals with DD.
Currently, organizations in Oregon offer very few programs to meet the urgent
respite needs of the caregivers.
Martha's Place. . .

- Provides comprehensive support for families
and individuals to help them avoid feelings of isolation, loneliness, and
hopelessness.
- Provides a safe, fun environment where
guests enjoy activities, delicious meals and lavish attention by our friendly
and professional staff.
Guests
Martha's Place is available for individuals
with DD, ages 12 and older. The participants
include individuals with a wide variety of DD (Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy,
Autism, etc.), ethic backgrounds, financial statuses, religions, and living
situations. Guests with a current or past (within
the last 5 years) history of interpersonal
aggression or sexual behaviors are not permitted to
utilize Martha's Place.
Location and Hours
Martha’s Place
is located at 16235 SW Woodcrest Avenue,
Tigard, OR (see
map or
driving directions). Martha's Place is
open 24 hours a day from Thursday at 6 PM to
Sunday at 6 PM.
Costs
Martha's Place provides
affordable respite services to caregivers. A fee of $135 a night is
required to help with operating costs. The fee includes all meals,
accommodations, and 24-hour care. Guests are requested to bring spending
money for extracurricular activities.

Martha's Place
has has fun theme weekends, such as bowling weekends, fishing weekends, and many
more! Please see our current season schedule.
Funding
Private regular
donors and caregivers using the services
fund the majority of the operating expenses. Large
foundational grants and private donors were
the major sources for initial capital funds.
Staff
The staff of Martha's Place is comprised of
five direct care staff, QWO's Executive Director and
Office Administrator.
All staff have passed an FBI background
check, are approved Oregon Foster Care
providers, and are comprehensively trained to
provide a safe and loving atmosphere for the
guests.
Tours & Reservations
All guests and
guardians are required to tour Martha's
Place prior to their first stay. Tours
are given Monday-Thursday from 9-3:00pm.

complete and return the online guest information forms to
QWO at least two weeks prior to your
stay. Contact
